Par High Polherris Harbour Gribben Head
Polruin Polridmouth Fowey

General:
Parked car in Fowey recreation ground car park and cycled
to start of walk at Charlestown car park. Another stroll
around the historic harbour, viewing the impressive tall
ships. Steady climb from harbour past lots of public
benches to top of cliffs at Appletree Point. Easy stroll along
the parks at top of cliffs past hotels with impressive
gardens and the coast watch lookout station, parks
replaced by golf course. From Gull Island sea view changes
to derelict buildings along the beach. Sea view suddenly
changes again at Fishing Point, with a small island covered
with shag birds. Golf course abruptly ends at Par Harbour
buildings with following a narrow long passage to main
road past huge factory buildings. Long main road walk to
Par High street to path to par caravan park & Par beach.
High volume of fowl and birds on lake at east end of Par
beach, well fed by the general public. Careful study of map
until coastal path sign post spotted by steps to cliff top
leading to Gribben Head. Undulating path to impressive
Polherris Harbour, steep descent and ascent to & from
harbour. Disturbed, a blue green Pheasant on path before
Little Gribben. Took ages for it to finally fly over hedge into
field. Huge impressive cliffs between Little Gribben and
Gribben Head. Head tower painted with red stripes on
three of four tower sides, more shags on Rocky island by
Rock Head. Views from herd towards Fowey extremely
impressive, highly recommended if you are in the area
and have time to follow coastal path. Polridmouth Dam a
surprise, but is a welcome change to scenery. Path
undulates again from Heed to Fowey, lots of pleasure
boats in Fowey harbour, but little activity due to de very
dull weather. Ready money beach a wonderful setting
with views or sea & Polruin houses on hillside. Easy
stroll along the esplanade to the centre of Fowey and
the ferries across the harbour. Steep climb along the
narrow streets from the quay to the car parked by the
recreation ground. Easier walk compared to recent
sections, enjoyed every step even with the unusual
surroundings at Par.
