General:
Parked car on Charlestown Road near harbour and cycled to
Mevagissey via A390 & B3273, with steep hike after Winnick Caravan
Park. Parked bike in rack opposite car park on valley road and walked
to harbour to find path via Piskie Garden and market square. Steep
ascents & descents from very start to Charlestown. Good views of
cliffs & rocky shoreline along the route. Joined the main road for a
while past Winnick before the picturesque village of Pentewan with its
harbour. Care required leaving Pentewan, Take road part way up hill,
then turn right along lane past All Saints church. Stopped for lunch at
stile near Polrudden farm as kestral flew by. Surprised to see large
wooden sculptures in cottage garden at Hallane. Memorial stone to
poet at Black Head. More steep cliffs around Gerrans point. Lone
post box just before Trenarrew Road, most odd. Very step steps down
& up at Phoebe's Point. Path not well defined at Porthpean beach.
Take path at top of beach to steps just before cliff. Path diverted
around Du Porth due to land slippage. Road work in Charlestown and
its tall ships in harbour. Welcome pie & pint in Hashleigh Arms before
journey to retrieve bike. Extremely tiring walk, but most enjoyable.
