Day 4: 60-80 miles. Chatted to the usual couples walking the Way, including the chap who looked Chinese, the German pair and the teacher from Newcastle. Heard that the blonde German had given up at the Bridge of Orchy because one whole side of his tent was swarming with gnats. Also spoke to the couple from North Yorks who we had met the previous days. Steep climb from bridge after a large breakfast. Good descent with picturesque view of Inverarnan Hotel. Relatively easy going along military road. Care taken to preserve soles of feet by walking on grass, heather, mud or large stones but not sharp stones. The previous days were opposite when the tracks were very muddy after heavy rain. Stopped for a rest at Ba Bridge. Good view of chair lift at White Quarries. Photograph of baby grouse just before Kinghouse. Teacher took photograph of us outside just before we enjoyed a welcome pint and the teacher caught a bus to return to Tyndrum for his rucksack. Good views of surrounding mountains while climbing the Devil's Staircase. Snow visible on tops of high mountains. Pass no worse than many in the Lake District. Lunch at top of Staircase with good views of Blackwater Reservoir. Woman in peak cap came into view just as I was relieving myself. Passed northern couple and hydroelectric house on steep rough road to town of Kinlochleven. Passed outlet of power station. Rescued sword in tree for boys. Pitched tent at McDonalds Hotel £3.50 each. Rained while in pub.
