Description:
Day 5: 80-95 miles. Steep ascent from Kinlochleven in fine drizzle. Left a good luck message for the Derbyshire Six on a prominent way marker post soon after leaving valley. Strong winds in valley of Allt Nathrach when we passed cyclists hoping to complete Way in 2½ days. Baby rabbits at entrance to wood after Lairigmor. Difficult to view Ben Nevis for many miles because of constant forest and low cloud base. Long rough forest road down to Glen Nevis valley. Good constant pace for whole of day in order to complete walk before noon. That is walk completed in 4½ days. Spoke to young chap at bottom of forest walk just about to walk Way from north to south. Good to see Ben Nevis again after the week's holiday a few years earlier. Photo of jubilation in Fort William at end of walk beside Way sign. Walked into Fort William for a welcome pie and pint. Coach to Glasgow, but missed most of scenery because of the odd nap or two. I was looking forward to seeing the route from the coach. Train to Milngavie where I collected Sierra from outside Police Station. Last few miles on M6 by instinct.
