Description:
87 miles to 95 miles. There were extensive views in many directions of distant hills, especially the Long Mynd and Stiperstones. It was very muddy and slippery after overnight and morning heavy rain. I walked from Bridge Farm to Hergan Hill with two Dutch students who were also following the Way. This section from Newcastle is known as the switchback because of the constant climb/descend nature until the ridge of Kerry Hill is reached, where there is a 700 ft descent to the Montgomery plain with good views of Long Mountain and the Severn valley. I discussed an unusual tree with a lady sat on the dyke before the lane and above Drewin village. The tree, growing on the dyke near Crowsnest Cottage, looked as if lots of birds' nests had been built all over its canopy. Closer inspection did not reveal any nests but just more twigs. There was a long cycle ride via Bishop's Castle where I rang the office and home on carried car telephone.

Location Map: - www.streetmap.co.uk, - Start: at Newcastle Finish: Brompton Bridge

Hazards:
Care is required on the slippery, steep slopes and muddy valley after heavy rain. Many tracks in Nut Wood to confuse Way followers.
