Description:
18.5 miles to 27 miles I cycled in the rain from Hen Gwrt 8.00pm to Watery Lane 8.50pm. I had a quiet ramble through undulating countryside, not typical of the dyke country. I chained my bike to a fence at the junction by B4233, opposite Hen Gwrt moated island. I parked by garages of Brook Estate near the start of Watery Lane and chatted to a lady walking her dog there. It was muddy and slippery through Monmouth Forest. I found no evidence of Grace Dieu Abbey. Rather than attempting the old overgrown route via the B4233, I followed the signed Path over Abbey Bridge and past The Old Rectory. There was a newly hatched bird on the bridge after the church. At the stile at Pen-pwll-y-calch Farm I encountered two dogs and a horse. In a field just after The Grange young bullocks were running, also several barking sheep dogs. At the start of the alternative route I rescued a worm from the road. Although I looked for the boundary stone in Monmouth Forest, I was unable to find it. .

Location Map: - www.streetmap.co.uk, - Start: at Monmouth Finish: at Monmouth.

Hazards:
Beware of unfriendly animals. If possible it is worth visiting St Teilo's Church in Llantilio-Crossenny village.
