I left my meeting on M50 motorway promptly, Hindlip Contract 'F' Start, to travel to Wye Valley, then parked the car in a parking space by garages near the main road of Watery Lane. I biked to the bottom of the hill by Bigsweir Bridge Lodge and hid my bike by a hedge, then walked up the hill to Birchfield House to the start of the day's walk on the Path. I thought I'd better not leave either the car or the bike outside the House in order to prevent another complaint. I walked down the hill and passed my bike, the Lodge and over Wyegate Hill, then a couple of old ladies when descending into Lower Redbrook. I bought an ice cream and a can of drink from the village shop. At the entrance to Duffield's Lane was the first border crossing into Wales. From Naval Temple and Kymin Tower there were excellent views of Monmouth and the surrounding valley. It was an interesting walk through the town but I'd like to take a closer look some day. I drove back to the Lodge and collected my bike.
.
Hazards:
I recommend carrying ample amounts of water when walking in hot and humid weather conditions. There were steep descents from Birchfield House and Kymin Tower. It is worth taking time to explore the Temple, which is now a shelter with a veranda.
