General:
Without considering country scenery this walk is full of adventure with
something different around every corner. Parked at Jennycliffe car
park and cycled to Cremyll Ferry via turnchaperl, Oreston, Laura Bridge,
St Judes, city centre and stonehouse. Lock biked to tree sapling
protector in car park by cremyll ferry slipway. Walked south along
Cremyll Street to the impressive stone building of the Royal William
victualling yard. Good views across 'The Sound to Drake's Island, mount
Edgecombe Park and cliffs of Devon yet to be walked. Returned north
along Millbay Street past Plymouth ferry port to the impressive Duck of
Cornwall Hotel. South again along West Hoe Road with more views to
cornwall, past modern Millbay Marina Village to the Victorian terraced
houses of Hoe Road. Lots of seaside holiday activity along Hoe Road,
café's gardens, Lido etc, all looking wonderful int eh sunshine. Had to
wait for Sutton Harbour Lock to be closed before crossing to coxside.
Short break on bench for sandwich over looking marina before continuing
to Cattendown. Interesting high level lane with interesting coastal path
'Rocket' sign. More excellent views across the city and the coastal waters,
only a short section of railway tracks remains at entrance to the docks.
Long road walk along Finnangian Road over Laira Bridge to Oreston,
around the streets to Pym yacht club and more views of the thousands of
yachts. Past the end of Hooe Lake to the woods for a short time to
Turnchapel. Good walk around Mount Batten Head, passing the many
boat yards and school kids on water activities. More excellent views of
'The Sound'. Short grassy walk from the head to the car park at Jennycliffe.
Very different walk not to be missed.
