SOUTH WEST COASTAL PATH MILLENDREATH to TREGANTLE FORT Friday 6th May 2011 ...............Walk No. 864 |
|||||
South West Coastal Path No. 42 Total: 399 miles Time Taken: Cycle: Distance: Enjoyment: Weather: 5:25 hours unknown 9 miles 85% Mist & Sunshine Temp: Cloud: Rain: Visibility: Ground Conditions: 17oC 60% 0% Misty Excellent Underfoot Points of Interest: Millendreath Looe Bodigga Cliffs Seaton Battern Cliffs Whitesands Portwrinkle Tret General: Parked by Tretangle Fort on road verge. Layby full of council stones and gypsies. Billy Bunter refreshment mobile in layby said he would keep an eye on my car. Cycled to Millendreath via Seaton & bridleway by Bodiggh cliffs. Locked bike to fence where neighbour sald he would keep an eye and walked up very steep narrow road and bridleway to Bodigga cliffs picnic area. Good views across to Looe. Undulating path through Bodigga Cliffs. to a turf labyrinth, completely unexpected. Traditional woods with steep drops to sea with lots of welcome Bluebells & other for woodland flowers. Surprise Bucklanwrenn information board and public footpath finger post in the middle of woods. Steady climb through 'Stroddicks' to bluebells by Looe Hill road. Down the hill to good views of Seaton and its beach. A long roan from Seaton to Downderry. Missed the path to beach so walked to the centre of the village and joined bench passing the village toilets. Hard work along the bench to school (no sign post found). Back to road and onto Battern cliffs path at hairpin bend. Steep path to Battern cliffs, passing the long stone, and Britain point. Excellent views across Whitesands Bay to Rame head. Through Portwrinkle to another climb to Whitesands bay golf course. Onwards to mod property at Tregantle Fort, where the kissing gate was unlocked. Ventured onto the firing range, where the path route was difficult to follow due to lack of walkers boots. Interesting to see the many firing ranges near the fort and the battleship off the bay. Very impressive up close. Short walk down the road to Billy Bunter refreshment van for a cup of tea and the end of the walk. Another excellent coastal walk, but very strenuous in places.
