Description:
The NHS walkers congregated at the Three Horse Shoes Public House car park in Princethorpe Village on the Fosse Way. Started walk from car park, crossed main road to stile for footpath towards Priory Farm. The path emerged between houses on the B4453. Short walk besides stream on main road to footpath towards Wappenbury Village. Good views across to Princethorpe College, with its very distinctive red brick church tower. At first opportunity turned sharp right at footpaths intersection for track towards The Woodhouse Hotel. Strange to see the hotel from the opposite side, always viewed hotel previously from road. Extremely wet in places, almost flooding. Nearly missed stile but soon emerged at junction to Burnthurst Lane, by Princethorpe Great Wood. We all strolled down the lane, to stroke a horse by Nunswood Farm, before a sharp turn right down the lane passing Burnthurst Farm. Good views left towards Shrubs Wood, before the lane bears left and footpath continues ahead towards Bull & Butcher Farm. Stopped for refreshments on a log by a livestock control contraption. Soon continued ahead, over the main Coventry to Banbury Trunk Road, A423, passing the Bull & Butcher Farm on the right and an OS Column on the left. Thrrough the wood and onto Fineacre Lane, leading to Stretton-on-Dunsmore Village. We didn't enter the village but took the lane to the right, towards Glebe Spinney and Princethorpe, past a very old finger post. The lane soon ended and the way ahead changed to a footpath with kissing gates and stiles. Passed the usual horses but also some geese. We joked that the geese hadn't voted for Christmas. A short careful walk along the main road in Princethorpe back to the pub car park. A quick change of footwear and a group photograph before we all dived into the pub for a welcome Christmas Lunch. A good day was had by all, thanks to Jean.

Hazards:
Take extra care when walking along main roads. It is a natural instinct to think that the group is safe when a large number of walkers are together, but always be alert for danger and keep the detailed conversations for the wide open fields.
