SOUTH WEST COASTAL PATH KYNANCE to KRUGGAR Monday 20th July 2009 ...............Walk No. 761 |
|||||
South West Coastal Path No. 29 Total 301 miles Time Taken: Distance: Enjoyment: Weather: unknown 7.5 miles 90% Dull then Rain Temp: Cloud: Rain: Visibility: Ground Conditions: 19oC 95% Little Good Good Points of Interest: Kynance Gull Rock Lizzard Lighthouse Housel Cove Bass Point Lifeboat Station Kuggar Cadgwith Whale Rock General: Parked car in campsite at Kuggar and cycled to Kynance Cove the national trust car park. Undulating walk along the rocky clifts to Lands End. The dull weather more than compensated by the excellent scenery. Good view of the lighthouse after turning lizard point. Past the most southerly house, shop & café on the mainland, after a quick visit for a fridge magnet. Round the point to find the sea much calmer on the easterly side. So calm it was easy to see the seals swimming just offshore. Path very busy at times, not only a whole class of youngsters with their teacher, but also lots of couples & family. Walked this section as part of AA walk. Remembered to Devil's Frying Pan, but forgot the lifeboat station. Weather slowly improved during the morning, an occasional glimpse of the sun enhancing the magical scenery of the steep cliffs. More undulating terrain, path rarely level, always walking uphill or downhill. Fortunately this section of the path has the highest concentration of benches since Minehead. Plenty of opportunities to take a 'breather' and enjoy the peace & tranquillity of the wonderful scenery. Plenty of excellent viewing spots despite the overgrown path in many places. In contrast, the path had recently been cleared of flora in many places. Passed the time of day with one young chap making a good job clearing the way. Lots of German tourists on the path, they are always keen to practise their English on me as they passed. Fellow walkers are always friendly and willing to explain the terrain they have just passed. Some wall stiles are step with slippery stones. Always a good idea for your friend or mate to steady each other or if alone to use the walking stick as a study third leg. Plenty of refreshments available at the attractive coastal village of Cadgwith . One cottage garden, on descent into the village had a multitude of brightly coloured flowers, extending up & down the path for many twists & turns. Surprised to see a golf course just before to road to Kuggar. No way signs to be found so perhaps, I had strayed from the official path again. Another ascent up the Kuggar road back to the car at the campsite.
