Nature: Kestrel Points of Interest: Porthleven Loe Bar Gunwalloe Halzephon Cliff Mullion cliff Gull Rock Lion Rock Kynance Cove Kynance General: Parked car in Kynance National Trust car park and cycled to Porthleven against strong winds. Policeman stopped me for cycling wrong way down one way street. Locked bike to rail by harbour. Started walk along east side of harbour to harbour wall, then turned along the coast past the old streets of cottages to Loe Bar. Hard work crossing the soft sand to the Lost Sailors memorial. Excellent views across the Loe despite the poor weather. Confusion on the correct route, had to consult all the navigational aids. Passed interesting rusty machinery just before fishing cove at Gunwalloe, then when leaving the cove and climbing baulk head, passing a party of elderly ladies. Short walk along coastal road, then the elevated walk around Halzephon Cliff to Church Cove. Surprise unused black post box in centre of road bridge at head of cove before yet another descent to Polurrian Cove and its large hotel. Next cove is the delightful Mullion Cove with its impressive cliffs and island. Steep climb up Mullion Cliff, welcome bench at the top before track, then a steady walk past charming residents to Predannack Head. High level walk with magnificent views of the coastline to Kynance Cove, with a steep Valley at Soap Rock particularly challenging when legs are weary. Don't short cut Vellan Head of the path is followed religiously. Keep cliff edge in sight when descending into cove. Side tracks steep, as I found out, when track is too far north of official path. Gull Rock and Lion Rock next to cove very impressive not to be missed. Last steep climb to car in National Trust car park. A magical but tiring day cycling and walking
