Description:
Ground conditions dry, despite heavy morning rain. Started at 1:50 pm from Pinehurst Cubbington on a sunny afternoon, passing Glebe Farm and Runghills Wood. Earthworks by River Leam, between Offchurch Bury and Runghills Wood, purpose unknown. Apple and damson trees full of fruit on the edge of Runghills Wood. Couldn't resist a quick sample of the natural countryside fruits. Passed Redhouse Farm and into Newbold Comyn Park, between the golf course 'holes' and heading for the River Leam. Walked on the rough track along the edge of the river, passing the childrens swings where I often played with my kids. Memories of my youngest catching finger in car door. Onwards to the swimming pool and the reservoir on the opposite bank with the usual sailing boats. Steep river bank by Newbold Terrace East, before crossing Willes Road into Jephson Gardens. Classic town gardens always popular with locals and visitors. Continued past the botanical gardens and the water fountains to the main street called 'Parade' and the Spa Water Tap, outside the Pump Rooms. Quick use of the amenities before continuing along the river by the Mill Gardens and Victoria Park. Watched the bowlers on the bowling greens enjoying the warmth from the sunshine before we continued the walk to Princess Drive Weir and the recently opened riverside path to the Grand Union Canal. Walked along the towpath through Leamington Spa Old Town to Sydenham. As we passed the site of the old gas works we tried to imagine a modern marina by the canal instead of the drab blocks of flats. The local council have probably missed a good opportunity to rejuvenate the Old Town. Passed the ladder bridge where I often carried my cycle to go 'Train Spotting' as a youngster. Continued to Newbold Comyn and back to Cubbington. A most delightful afternoon's walk with John along the River Leam, with its many contrasting environments.

Hazards:
Take care when walking along the river bank. Do not disturb the fishermen and the wildlife. Extra care required when crossing the busy roads in town. Take a cup to sample the spa water (very salty).
