Description:
Parked Laz's car at Cennen Cove (£3 per day) & Drove to St Just. Parked Den's car in free car park in centre of St Just. Walked from car park along the long tarmaced Bosorne Road to Cot Valley. Crossed stream at mouth of valley by planked bridge, opposite car parking places. Ken said I hadn't followed the exact official coastal route because I didn't pass the steep ascent from the bridge to an undulating path, saving a couple of metres of path. Steady zig zag climb to the top of the point. Watched a large boat from the summit slowly sailing around Lands End. Disappearing from view as we approached Sennen Cove. Passed several large clumps of multi coloured flowers on slopes high above the cliffs and watched many different species of butterflies and insects flying by the path. Excellent views in both directions along the coast. Continued from Cot valley to a very large zig zag in path to top of Gribba Point, then undulating terrain to Whitesands Bay, where the path levelled on the top of a rapidly eroding low cliff above huge stones at the top of a very sandy beach. Official path diverted in places to prevent the public straying too close to the recently eroded cliff. Pleasant walk along the cliff, watching the surfers tackle the 'Huge Wave'. Lifeguard station caring for the bathers in the bay, with coloured coded flags in places to mark the safer bathing areas. High tide, so no firm sands across the bay. We walked on the soft sand where we had no choice, but generally walked on the paths along the top of the beach. The many rock formations on route when studied carefully, resembled the faces of many of our work mates. No we weren't missing work. Long and steep ascent from the beach to the car park, with most of the effort lost in the soft sand. Very tiring at the end of a walk. We noted the single strand of wire across the path at a very steep point of the ascent. No marker available in the area to signify the danger to future walkers passing this point.
