Description:
It was very frosty, cold and clear at the start of the walk. The first and good view of Dale from Over Haddow. There was a man swimming in the River Lathkill, naked. We crossed the river near Raper Lodge and stopped for a drink on the bridge, watching wild life. We saw a kingfisher fishing with a finale 'fly-past' as we were about to move on. We diverted from Lathkill Dale at Alport to Bradford and joined the Limestone Way at Bradford to Castle Ring. Lunch was taken at Robin Hood's Stride, followed by a visit to the Hermit's Cave where we watched the 'free' climbers. It was a short walk along B5056 road before a right turn up a steep hill to Birchover. We side-tracked most of the village by Barton Hill quarries to Birchover Road. After crossing the road we passed New Park quarry to a weathered 'cork' stone. Several members of the group stood on top of the stone. We continued to Stanton Moor Plantation via Tower and Nine Ladies stone circle. We progressed from the plantations to Lees Road, Sheepwalk Wood to Pilhough Lane. A young lady joined the back of the group as we queued for the stile for a steep descent to Congreave. We rounded Peak Tor to the lane and bridge to the coach at Rowsley Village. .
