AA Walks Rough Tor 1311ft XXXXX
Description:
I parked in the purpose-built car park for Rough Tor, leaving Sylvia reading a book and writing postcards in the car. If time allows Brown Willy to the north-east could be climbed. Just after the start of the walk I visited Charlotte’s Monument while trying to keep my feet from getting wet on the mossy ground. I had to pick my way carefully from the car park as rocks were much larger than expected. The steep scramble could have been difficult if I hadn’t planned my route carefully. The summit at ‘4’ was much easier to scale from the car park side. Showery Tor was completed separately from Rough Tor and Little Tor. There were good paths from the summits to the car park, not rough but a fine cut grass almost velvety in appearance. There were lots of wild horses and ponies grazing around the moor of the Tor. This AA walk was unusual because the whole of the walk could be viewed from the start. When I completed this walk it was three weeks to the day that the devastating flash Boscastle floods occurred only seven miles away.

Rough Tor

Hazards: Care should be taken when scrambling on the huge rocks, especially when wet.
