|||||
Pennine Way No.17 Total: 271.50 miles Description: Early start in rain, Steep ascent from Byrness through woods to hills. Skirted military danger zone, occasional explosion in the distance. Border fence with Scotland after four miles from start very disappointing. Just an ordinary fence between two fields. Walked along fence for a mile to Chew Green Roman Camp. Peat hags dry, walking relatively easy. Views along ridges disappointing. Lunch at Cairn Hill, where Eddie and I walked to top of The Cheviot inn turn with rucksack. Steep descent from Cairn Hill, knees feeling crunch. Chris and I walked down valley, Eddie along ridge to Kirk Yetholm. Met by Jen in car. CELEBRATIONS ALL ROUND - TO SEE THE END IS MAGIC GOOD OLD WAINWRIGHT. Location: Start of Walk Hazards: Care required along entire length of walk if weather bad or ground boggy. Relatively easy to find directions. Very tiring journey back to Kendal. Click Here to Go to Previous 'Pennine Way - No. 16' Click Here to Return to 'Lifetime of Walks' Homepage | |||||
