AA Walks Craigendarroch Peak Ballater
Pass of Ballater River Dee Peak Golf Course
Description:
I parked in the free car park behind the church in the town centre. Sylvia was reading a book (Harry Potter) in the car. From the flat town and golf course I walked to a steep rocky path in the woods alongside rock faces. A waymark at ‘4’ was marked ‘Circular Walk’. I continued uphill from ‘5’ to a seat where the paths forked, then followed the meandering rocky path to the top. Trees were growing very well there but restricted the views, soon to become completely obscured. I circled Craigendarroch from the bench to the first path past the dry ski slope, through the Hilton Hotel and timeshare buildings to the main road. I turned off the old railway track at ‘12’, just before the end of the wood, where the path then followed the river bank from ‘12’ to ‘13’. There was no broader path on the left at ‘14’. I followed the track to the caravan site and then turned left down a fenced track. It had been a varied walk with excellent scenery.
