Points of Interest and LINKS:
AA Walks Sherwood Forest Edinwinstowe
St Mary's Church Major Oak Archway House
Description:
From '1' take track around cricket green. Follow signs for major oak, direct path now not obvious because of new fenced paths from visitor centre. Take track less 90oC from track to major oak to reach point '3'. My choice of track from major oak was the 'red route' which was the most south track from my initial choice and I still arrived into the correct path at sign post at edge of forest where footpaths cross just before '5'. No gate at '6', lane now gravel not tarmac. Lovely wide avenue of trees at '6' towards archway house. No gate at '7', take track parallel to road. Sign changed to 'Archway House' now 'Cycleway 6'. Passed under bridges to view kings john palace. Expecting ruins of an ancient palace, eventually realising the place is the head gear for the coal mine. Swans with signets on river bank by River Maun bridge just before '9' ahead at '10'. Small new housing estate at '11', no iron fence but small garden walkway to road. Tried to use public toilet just before '15' entrance and gardens well kept but door locked, thought about using ladies but didn't. Rained before and after walk.
