PENNINE WAY Ponden Reservoir to Airton River 12th September 1981 .......................................Walk No. 5 |
|||||
Pennine Way No.4 Total: 51.5 miles Description:Shooting boxes on Ickornshaw Moor. Very good views from Pinhaw Beacon. Stopped on top of beacon to listen to weather forecast. Level walking at last along canal. Gargrave, shopping and listened to football results. Chased by bulls in field just before Newfield. At one stage only a shallow River Aire separated us from a dozen angry bulls. Prepared to jump over high wall if needed. Rained just before we looked for suitable campsite, worried. Didn't rain again thank goodness. While camped Ricky went for a dip, then shook himself in the tent. To my surprise Ricky opened tent door and vacated the tent in the middle of the night. Christopher asleep. I had great difficulty waking the next morning. Location: Start of Walk Hazards: Care required when crossing fields of bulls, especially if you are accompanying a dog. B sure to close all gates behind you. Click Here to Go to Previous 'Pennine Way - No. 3' Click Here to Go to Next 'Pennine Way - No. 5' Click Here to Return to 'Lifetime of Walks' Homepage | |||||
