Afon Lwyd Monmouth and Brecon Canal Brecon Beacons
Description:
Started walk at 'G' Jockey Bridge. discussed 'I' Watchtower with a retired gent as I was putting on my boots. passed by joggers as I walked along the canal towpath. At '12' Roman Road was not obvious at first, better descriped as an overgrown track. After a short distance the carefully positioned stones confirmed any doubts that the track was an overgrown Roman road. Care required at '13', the second gate leads to the watchtower, otherwise a wall will have to be climbed. Watchtower under renovation as the gent I had met had explained. Good views of surrounding hills. Iron ladder stile at '15' not obvious at first but the wall should be inspected creafully. Way downhill through park difficult to explain but if the track in the general direction of the town is follwed, the Rugby ground will be found. Fair in park by pool.

Parking on Glantorvaen Road, Pontypool for this walk I parked on the lane by the canal near the Jockey Bridge

Hazards:
Follow route with caution. The guide is correct but must be studied with care. Interesting walk along the canal and back to the Jockey Bridge.
