Description:
120.5 miles to 129.5 miles. I parked my bike in a hedge on the Way near Offa's Dyke Memorial beside the B4579. I drove to Cefn Lane to start the walk at 5:30pm. It was a steep descent and ascent from Cefn Lane to the top of Moelydd. The Dyke sign was broken and left propped up against a tree. It was a pleasant walk through the village of Trefonen. The Dyke was very pronounced in places, especially in the wood on Craig Forda before the Old Race Course. The Way was diverted from the Dyke along lanes on Baker's Hill. I took a photo of a large fungus growing from a tree trunk on the path in Craig Forda, where the path turns east for a short distance near the top of the ridge, before the Dyke is reached. A photo was also taken at Carreg-y-big of Craig Forda. The Dyke had been built, where possible, on the west side or slopes of the hills so the Welsh enemy attacking from the west would be visible for the maximum distance and time. Unfortunately, because I walked most of the walk in the evenings during the best calculated weather, the sun was often in my eyes, obscuring the good or magnificent views. I was surprised to find lots of sheep running through a gateway blocking my way. I asked the way from a farmer driving sheep using a petrol driven buggy. I biked back to Cefn Lane at 9:15pm.
