Points of Interest and LINKS:
Offa's Dyke Path Pandy Trawsll Wyd
Hatterall Hill Black Hill (Cat's Back) Longtown
Tre-wyn (house) Hay Bluff The Castle (ruin)
Description:
35 miles to 48 miles. We chained our bikes to a wire fence just below Hay Bluff, behind bushes. Colin parked his bus in an unused entrance to a lane at Trawsll Wyd before the start of the walk. We passed the ruined castle just before reaching the top of the ridge, then passed many summits along the ridge towards Hay Bluff. Lunch was eaten next to the Trig Point, at 2020 feet. A caterpillar was rescued on the path from almost certain death by heavy walking boots. Views were very disappointing because of the haze, but we were compensated to some extent as the haze lifted a little when we reached the end of the ridge at Hay Bluff. At the end of the walk we were pleased to find that our bikes were untouched, but amazed when we saw the steep hill to push the bikes up, soon after starting along the country lane back to Colin's bus. From the head of the valley it was a 10 mile freewheel down the lane to a welcome pint in the pub at Longtown. We left Darren at the bottom of the hill with the bikes while Colin and I collected the bus from the lane entrance. .

Location Map: - www.streetmap.co.uk, - Start: at Paddy Finish: Hay Buff

Hazards:
An excellent ridge walk with no stiles. However, it was a shame about the haze.
