General:
Laz dropped us at Bolberry Down and drove to Salcombe park
and ride. Den, Ken and myself walked from Bolberry Down car
park in the mist towards Sour Mill Cove. Easy going at first
then a long descent into Sour Mill Cove, over small wooden
bridge near small sandy beach before steep and long ascent
from cove to 'The Warren' above Steeple Cove. Easy going
again to Bolt Head, passing the occasional huge toadstool, or
are they mushrooms? We met Laz at gate by field of horses
before long descent to Starehole Bay. Laz walked from
Salcombe to Bolt Head so the car was at the destination.
Wonderful views in the mist around Starehole Bay to Sharp
Tor. Very interesting rock formations around the Tor, with a
fence and a wall stopping the walker from falling into the sea.
Good views to Salcombe and it's harbour, even in the mist.
Easy walking past Under Beck to Splatcove Point, then a
descent to South Sands and steep ascent from beach before
another descent and ascent around beach to Salcombe Castle.
More easy walking along road into Salcombe with good views
up and down estuary, besides Portlemouth Down. Passed an
old private funicular railway before the hotels of Salcombe.
Very narrow streets to ferry.
A welcome pint and bowls of chips in the “Ferry Inn' although
we had to wait ages for the chips.
Another good walk with the boys.
