Walk led by Elspeth & Ainslie Dairymple.
Parked in Masons Arms carpark and walked through village past Mary Arden Public House to Swanfold and the alleyway. Past the children's playground by Swan's Close. Muddy track along the edge of the fields and the boundary of the house gardens to Marsh Road near Aston Holdings. Through another alleyway to a steep and slippery track down to the brook which passed Aston Holdings. Right turn down the lane of cycleway No5, for a short distance to the footpath top of the hill and the abandoned quarries. Skirted the large quarry with good views all around, except for a view of the quarry. So overgrown it is not possible to be sure if the quarry bottom is visible. Stopped for refreshments after the quarry at the intersection of four fields. Onwards along the lane to Newham Village with its attractive houses and cottages. Right turn along the lane leaving the village passing Nells Hill Farm and more desirable cottages. Straight ahead at the sharp curve of the lane to the footpath leading to Draper Bridge on the Stratford Canal. Field just before bridge was full of newly created molehills. Canal towpath normally was easy walking, but because of the snow and frost, great care required not to slip into the freezing water of the canal. Left the canal at Wilmcote railway station and walked along Station Road into Wilmcote Village, passing Mary Adren's House and the Mary Arden public house. Right turn back to carpark at the rear of Mason's Arms and a welcome lunch and pint. Thanks to Elspeth and Ainslie for an enjoyable walk.
