Colin & myself enjoyed a welcome lift from Brian to Old Village, Northamptonshire. To miss the school traffic, Brian took us down all the appropriate lanes he knew from his BT working days. From Old Village we started the walk across the fields to Scaldwell Village, passing through a very muddy field of horses. One horse was very friendly and followed us to the stile at the end of his field. As we approached the village up School Lane towards High Street, we passed a BT Engineer up a ladder, working on the overhead telephone lines. This was appropriate as colin had recently been knocked off his ladder while working in a factory for BT. In the High Street was a very heavy duty crane, lifting materials etc over a cottage, even the locals were watching with interest. After passing 'The Grange' we turned right down a lane to a house with an unusual greenhouse. The top of the greenhouse roof was tiled. Most strange. Crossed more fields of horses to the main A508 road and the village of Hanging Houghton. A pretty village with good views to the west and lots of clumps of daffodils. Crossing the main road again we continued north skirting the village of Lamport to the impresssive Shortwood House. The haha opens up the views to and from the house. After Shortwood House we looped around to the medieval village of Faxton. Apart from a couple of modern house nearby, the village had gone, leaving only the church font and a few grave stones in a small fenced area. Back across the fields to Old and a welcome meal in the White Horse public house. Thanks again to Paul for leading the walk and Brian for providing the transport.
