Description:
Parked at Tesco Warwick for a breakfast with Ken, before taking the bus to Kenilworth Clock Tower. Walked along Castle Road in the drizzle to Kenilworth Castle. We entered the castle grounds by The Tilyard Dam on the Centenary Way route. From the northern end of the dam we followed the 'Way' south towards Castle Farm and Oaks Farm, passing numerous fields of newly born lambs. At Rouncil Lane the finger sign posts directions are shown in 'Old English' characters. Very appropriate. From the Goodrest Cottages the path passes a council storage site. The earth banked buildings are camouflaged well and look very similar to old air raid shelters. Just before Goodrest Manor Farm we took the path to the left, which crossed the front of the distant House. Back onto the Centenary Way we turned right (or south), across a very muddy field alongside the eastern edge of the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club. As we entered Larch Covert Wood the ground was covered with numerous clumps of colourful primroses. Delightful signs that spring is on the way. Another surprise as we left the wood, a outbreak of rock. Very unusual in Warwickshire. No signs of a hole in the ground, but may have been the result of an ancient quarry. The footpath and map was followed with great care at this point. We didn't want to stray onto Wedgenock Rifle Range. The path crossed several fields, passing Middle Woodloes Buildings (with its pig weather vane) and Woodloes Farm, to the diversion of footpaths. We took the right option, crossing half right across the field to the A46 Trunk Road, Warwick By-Pass. Here there was a newly posted council notice explaining that the footpath across the road was to be diverted, from that very day, to the nearby footbridge. We believe we were the very last humans to use the footpath across the road at this point. Famous at last. South of the by-pass the walk entered the built-up area of Woodloes Park and continued to the Grand Union Canal. Another change of scenery along the canal, passing a Wren (bird) and Kate's Boatyard. A couple of hundred metres from Tesco Canal Bridge No. 46, we passed a newly built boat. Very impressive. Should we 'sell up' and buy a boat? Back to the car and the end of another enjoyable Warwickshire Ramble with Ken.

Hazards:
Take care not to stray from the designated footpath alongside Wedgnock Rifle Range. The consequences of an wrong map reading could be fatal. Well, the loud sudden noise could be distressing.
