Steady walk past railway station, public house (The Rambler) and through Edale & Grindsbrook Booth Villages to alleyway to Kinder Scout & Grindsbrook Clough. Crossed Grinds Brook via narrow wooden bridge, then steep ascent to foot of Ringing Roger. Misty views of Grindsbrook Clough, Grindslow Knoll & Edale. Walked under Ringing Roger to head of Ollerbrook Clough and onto Rowland Cote Moor. Easy walk on path at edge of Kinder Plateau to Crookstone Out Moor. Steady descent down Crookstone Hill to Hope Cross, purposely missing Crookstone Barn. More hazy views of Win Hill, Lose Hill and Mam Tor. Lunch by Roman Road soon after Hope Cross above Edale End. Only one view of Ladybower Reservoir for a short time from Crookstone Hill, remainder of time reservoir obscured by trees of Woodlands Valley. Further steady descent after lunch to road & Townsend Bridge over River Noe. Huge contrast of scenery from moorland to riverside fauna and flora. Another steady ascent past Townhead along ridge to summit of National Trust land, Lose Hill. Threat of thunderstorm from east producing a shower for a few minutes on the summit. Just enough for everyone to wear their waterproofs. Gorgeous walk along ridge to Hollins Cross with good views to north & south, over Back Tor & Barker Bank. Yet another steady ascent from Hollins Cross to car park at 4:15pm. Changed into sweeter smelling clothes before a walk to The Rambler Public House, to watch the England versus Equador World Cup game on the television, England won with a David Beckham free kick. Thanks to Ken for a well planned and varied walk. Location: www.streetmap.co.uk , - Start & Finish: Edale Village 412425/385320, - Via: Hope Cross 416030/387460, - Via: Lose Hill 415310/385305.
