Started walk from car park by River Teith, just off Main Street. Almost missed alley in Talipan Crescent. I was looking for last house, then realised that more houses had been built in recent years. I had to change my requirements from 'last house' to 'first new property'. Very good path from '3' to almost the summit of Callander Craig. Path very steep in places, especially at lower levels. Passed a group of trees with misterious red dots at about chest level. Are these trees destined to be felled next? Half way to the summit I passed a noisey school or student party on the path descent slowly. Surprisingly the view down to Callander could not be seen until just before the summit. The summit cairn plaque explained that it was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Excellent views of surrounding peaks from summit. Primroses, bluebells and gorse very colourful on descent. I was too busy enjoying the views to notice the turn and steep path at '5'. I continued straight ahead down the fell to the road. Followed the road around to first lane, which led to the golf course. Struggled to find an obvious path around the edge of golf course. None shown on maps or illustrations. Not many golfers using the course during a fine and sunny day. Must be an expensive round. Couldn't find the exact route around the golf course, but found point '16', by the old railway route eventually. Crossed Main Street to footbridge, along the riverbank past a school of young children playing cricket. Finally over the road bridge back to car park and welcome drink. Another varied and challenging walk in the sunshine.
