Left Sylvia reading in disabled car park at Flatford Mill. Very disorientated at start of the walk, I was expecting to walk in the opposite direction, but description at '1' fitted the lay of the land perfectly. I soon realised my mistake, I was getting the villages of Dedham and Bantham mixed up. Sluice at '2' very small, I was expecting much more concrete. Follow obvious broad path from '3' to '7', but stiles now changed to metal kissing gates. No stile or kissing gates at '6'. Car alarm at '7' war memorial keeping everyone awake, it had obviously been going off for along time because it was going quiet for a while from time to time to reserve the battery. Well kept playing fields between '7' and flamish houses. Looked for Royal Grammar School just after church, but couldn't not find it, so I continued on road, eventually returned to '7' and spotted the building close to the war memorial. Dedham very picturesque and with the sunny day the tourists were out in force. Good free parking opposite Dedham Mill. Mill now converted to living accommodation. Boats in full use at Flatford '1' and Dedham '8', mostly poor at steering. Path from '10' to '11' in tunnel of trees. Steep climb from '11' to stile in corner of field at '12'. Road in steep sided cutting from '13' to '1'. Good parking at '13' £1.70. Walked back to 'painted houses' with Sylvia on bridge and walking past lock to mill. Took a photo of mill and waterfall. When I studied the photo I realised the painting 'flatford mill' 1811 was taken from the lock, not as suggested of the walk sheet from Willy Lott's Cottage.
