Description:
Unique AA walk in snow. Only two other cars parked and only a few tracks in snow at a normally busy information centre. Crossed main road to find some wonderful snow views across the plain and along the ridge. Hurried into the unknown, wondering if I could continue, especially on the descent for the return half. Not a sign of activity on the airfield, no sign of any movement at all. Followed the existing tracks on top of the ridge diligently. I was horrified to see an enormous black cloud approaching from the north, was it about to snow again and obscure my navigation even more? Rounded the Scar and slipped over twice, almost turned back. The descent at the turn only possible with the aid of steps and a handrail. White horse obviously not visible. Followed tracks at bottom of the track in Kilburn Forest. Came to fork in path, behind Devils Parlour on map. Followed tracks to right up hill past bench. Returned to fork because track continued upwards. Followed left fork, no track to road except animal tracks including birds' wings in snow. Return to car park to find two large snowballs rolled to back of the car so I couldn't get out.
